End of
government consultation.
Autumn 2025:
Final decision from Ministers on the future local government structures in Surrey.
January 2026 - May 2026:
Government consult on the formation of a Mayoral Strategic Authority (MSA)
January 2026:
Government lays legislation to begin implementation.
May 2026:
Elections for new unitary councils to take place.
April 2027:
New unitary councils expected to be in place. MVDC ceases to exist.
May 2027/28:
Mayoral election.
